Canter Safari in Pench
What Is a Canter Safari?
A canter safari in Pench is an open vehicle that accommodates around 16 – 20 visitors at a time. Operated by the Madhya Pradesh Forest Department, it’s an excellent choice for larger groups or those who couldn’t secure a jeep safari permit. Each ride is led by a trained naturalist guide, who shares insights about the forest, helps spot wildlife, and ensures a safe, informative, and enjoyable experience.
The canter traverses the same forest routes as jeeps, covering major zones like Turia, Karmajhiri, and Jamtara. During the journey, you might encounter Royal Bengal Tigers, leopards, Indian wild dogs (dholes), gaur, spotted deer, and a variety of bird species.
The elevated seating of the canter provides a superb vantage point for wildlife viewing and photography, making it a popular option for nature enthusiasts and photographers alike.
